The South Asian Association for the Study of the Liver (SAASL), the professional organisation representing hepatologists of the South Asian countries, launched a landmark initiative on Friday with the formation of a SAASL Women in Hepatology Forum.
The launching of the new forum took place at webinar, where around 35 lady hepatologists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka participated.
SAASL President Prof SP Singh chaired the webinar conducted by General Secretary Prof Mamun Al Mahtab.
Adhalk Committee of SAASL Women in Hepatology Forum was formed with Dr. Abha Nagral from India as the Chairperson, Dr. Lubna Kamani from Pakistan as Co-Chairperson and Dr. Rokshana Begum from Bangladesh as the Member Secretary.
The first all women webinar on hepatology by the forum will be held on March 31 on the birthday of Dame Shila Sherlock, the founder of hepatology.
The forum aims to promote career and research in hepatology in the region as well as women empowerment, said a statement.
