A tree plantation program has been conducted under the initiative of the Kaliakair Upazila branch of the environmentalist organization Sabuj Andolan Gazipur. On Monday General Secretary of Sobuj Andolan Kaliakair Upazila branch Md Mofizul Islam Raihan was present as the chief guest in the said program under the chairmanship of Central Executive Council member SAM Sumon.
The president said in his speech, we have been agitating to save the green forest for a long time. Once upon a time there was a green sanctuary in Kaliakair upazila. In modern times, the expanding economic growth has led to the development of industrial factories. As a result, the amount of greening is almost non-existent. Our organization has been emphasizing on plantation since its inception. Plantation program was implemented today as part of the central programme.
The chief guest also said that Sabujyan is being disrupted due to land robbers. If this situation continues, there will be no green left. Which we cannot allow.
Most of the canals and rivers in the area are plagued with pollution. In the future, the tree plantation program will be implemented on a large scale under the initiative of the green movement. Our struggle to create public awareness to prevent environmental degradation will continue.
The old farmers of that area Salim Uddin and Jamal Uddin said, we are very happy to see the work these boys and their organization are doing for the country, society and environment. Like them we all need to work for the environment.
Jamal Uddin said, we no longer get good water in the river. The water in the river now contains only chemicals. The water has turned black. We cannot irrigate the land with this water. If this water is irrigated in the field, the crops will be destroyed. We thank you, may this good initiative of yours be successful.
Later in the plantation program, seedlings of various native species were planted. Also present at this time were the vice president of Sabuj Andolan Upazila Committee Khorshed Alam, Mahabub Ismal, Zahidul Islam, Sabuj government and local leaders and residents.
