Smugglers held with gold at Ctg railway station

Railway Police (GRP) have arrested a smuggler with 60 bhori of gold from Chittagong Railway Station. At this time 3 gold bars weighing about 45 bhori, 1 gold piece weighing 2 bhori, 1 gold chain and bracelet were recovered from under his knees.

Police said that they were waiting to be smuggled from Chittagong to Feni on the Swarna Udayan Express at midnight. Moreover, a gang was smuggling gold from Hazari alley in Chittagong in a special way at home and abroad. Police suspect that some traders have links with this gang of a large gold market Hazari Goli in Chittagong. He was arrested at midnight on Wednesday.

The name of the detainee is Kanak Banik (40). He is a resident of Kazirbagh area under Feni Sadar Model Police Station.

GRP Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafiz Bhuiyan confirmed the arrest.

Railway police said he was arrested at midnight on Wednesday when the movement of the Kanak merchant in the station area appeared suspicious. Later, during preliminary interrogation, the arrested Kanak merchant admitted that several others were involved in the scam.

GRP Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafiz Bhuiyan said, “Last night, a man was arrested with about 60 bhali of gold. The value of the recovered gold is estimated at Tk 33 lakh. He first said he had bought the gold from Chittagong and Feni. But he could not show any valid paper. Later I got some information during interrogation. The accused was handed over to the court and remanded for 5 days. The information we have is being checked and sorted.
