A smart disinfection fog gate where all people go through to ensure that they are free from symptoms of coronavirus has been installed at the entrance of emergency department at Bera Upazila Health Complex in Pabna on Tuesday.

The gate detects entering people and sprays sterilising materials automatically to ensure the public's safety.  The gate has been developed by Abdul Halim, deputy assistant community medical officer of Bera Upazila Health Complex. The gate is made locally with the help of water drum, some pipes, springs and some ancillary equipment.

Due to this, patients and their relatives who come for treatment at Bera Upazila Health Complex feel safe and secure. Nazir Hossain of Banagram Uttar area, Shamsher Ali of Maitrabandha, Sushma Rani Pal of Maldah Para village of Haturia-Nakalia Union and Manija Khatun of the same union said, “As Covid-19 patients flood emergency rooms across the country, non-coronavirus patients are avoiding hospitals.

But today, when we entered through the gate, we don't have to go home with panic after being disinfected with sterilising sprays.” Manija Khatun said, “While passing through the gate, I felt that disinfectant is being sprayed all over my body. Later I came to know that the disinfectant has been sprayed with the help of machine.

People nowadays are petrified of going to the hospital even for necessary doctor’s appointment, fearing they would catch the coronavirus. But this fog door has lessened our fear.”

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Milon Mahmud said, "People are terrified of this pandemic. Non-coronavirus patients are afraid of coming to the hospital. I am trying to make the people of the area aware by installing disinfectant spray gates during this crisis.”

Such gates or tunnels have been set up in different parts of the country to detect the novel coronavirus.  The disinfection gate will automatically detect passengers or cars as they enter through it, and spray them with disinfectants.
