Six of a family among 7 killed in Manikganj road crash

6 others killed in Tangail road accident

At least seven people including six members of a family were killed in a road accident in Manikganj, while six other people were killed in another road accident in Tangail on Friday. 

In Manikganj, the seven people were killed and several others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Mulakandi in Daulatpur upazila of the district. The incident happened at about 3:00 pm. 

Of the seven victims, six died on the spot while one breathed his last on the way to hospital. 

Of the deceased, six were identified as Gobinda Baidyakar, 33, his wife Bobita Baidykar, 26, daughter Radhe  Baidykar, 4, father Hare Krishna, 56, aunt Khushi Bala, 52, and cousin Ramprasad Baidykar, 32 of Chasabhadra village in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail while the remaining deceased was identified as CNG driver Jalal, 32 of Sametpur village under Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter. He said that Gobinda Baidyakar along with his family members was heading to Manikganj from Tangail on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in order to see a doctor for his ailing four-year-old daughter Radhe Baidykar.

When the CNG-run auto-rickshaw reached at Mulkandi area, a passenger bus named ‘Village Nine Paribahan’ collided head on with it, killing six passengers and driver of auto-rickshaw on the spot.

Police seized the bus, however its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, said the OC.

In Tangail, the six persons were killed and five others injured in the road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kurni area under Mirzapur upazila of the district. 

Three of the deceased are Ashraful Islam, 34, son of Joynal Hossain of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur district, Sirajul Islam, 31, son of Parvez Ali, and helper Chunnu Mia, 32, son of Ratan Miah of Shanerhat village.  

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gorai Highway Police Station Md Mozaffor Hossain confirmed the matter. He said that they rushed to the spot after receiving the news of the accident.  

The accident took place at about 7:0 am when a Dhaka-bound vegetable-laden truck hit a standing bus of ‘Seba Classic Paribahan’ on the spot. 

It was a passenger bus of Rangpur-Dhaka Route that left from Rangpur at night.  On the way, the bus was parked on the side of Dhaka-Tangail Highway for repairing.

Four people died on the spot while two others died at Kumudini Medical College Hospital at Mirzapur.

Five others, who were critically injured, were admitted to the Kumudini hospital.

The bus and truck drivers fled away after the accident.
