Six killed in road accidents

At least 6 people were killed and three more injured in Gazipur,  Bogura, Netrakona and Madaripur road accidents within last 36 hours  till Monday evening.

Gazipur Correspondent says: At least three people were killed when a truck rammed an easy-bike in Shilabristi filling station area of Kaliakair on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Monday morning (February 19).

The deceased were known as Jahidul Islam, son of Abbas Ali, Mabzel, son of Ieakub Ali, Shawkat Ali, son of late Hasan Ali.

Police said cement-laden a truck hit the three-wheeler around 6:30am in the area, leaving the three people dead on the spot and injured two others.

Noajor highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahadat Hossain confirmed the matter.

Bogura Correspondent reports:  A woman was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Shibpur area under Adamdighi upazila of the district Monday.

The deceased was identified as Asma Bibi, 30, wife of Tuku, resident of Kakail village under Gabtali upazila of the district.

The accident occurred when they were going to Bogura town on a CNG-run auto rickshaw, on the way, the CNG hit a standing trolley around 12.15pm in the area this afternoon, leaving three injured including the CNG driver, officer-in-charge (OC) of Adamdighi Police Station Rajesh Kumar Chakraborty said.

The injured were taken to Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead. Later, the two others injured were shifted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital for better treatment, he said.

Legal action is under process in this regard, he added.

Netrakona Correspondent says: A teenage girl died after being run over by a car of Palli Bidyu in Netrakona's Madan upazila on Sunday.

The accident took place in the morning at Sujan Bazar of Govindashri village on the Madan-Khaliyajuri road.

The victim Lucky Akter, 18, daughter of Abdul Hai Talukdar, was a resident of Bargaria village under Gobindshri union of the upazila. She was a 12th grader at Madan Govt Haji Abdul Aziz Khan Degree College.

According to police and locals, Lucky Akter left home in the morning to participate in the ongoing HSC test examination. She was waiting for her classmates on the side of the road at Sujan Bazar. At that time, a pole-laden trolley of Madan Palli Bidyut crushed the girl. She died on the spot.

Madaripur Correspondent adds:  A boy was crushed under the wheels of a train in Madaripur's Shibchar upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased Mahmudul Islam, 10, son of Jahangir Molla, was a resident of Kandi village under Qutubpur union of the upazila. He was a student of local Iqra Rawzatul Uloom Madrasah in the same area.

Railway police and locals said a train from Dhaka ran over the boy while he was crossing the railway line on a bridge in Baro Keshabpur area. He died on the spot.

Bhanga Railway Station (Bamankanda) Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam confirmed it.
