Six jailed in Cox’s Bazar

The court sentenced 6 accused to one year imprisonment for the crime of cutting 3000 saplings by the planters in the hope of afforestation. On Wednesday (December 14) at noon, Senior Judicial Magistrate (Ramu Kart) of Cox's Bazar Akhtar Javed announced the verdict, the first exception in the history of Cox's Bazar. The court's APP advocate Pratibha Das confirmed this fact. .

The convicts are the late Maulvi Md. of Ramur Gorjania. Hasem's son Abu Hannan (37), Abdul Khalek's son Kabir Ahmad (45), Mohammad Nabi (55), his son Jasim Uddin (20), deceased Maulvi Abul Hashem's son Bhutro (22) and Abul Mansoor (27).

The court acquitted Abdul Momen's wife Shahina Akhtar (26) in the case as the charges were not proved.

According to court sources, in June 2020, during the Corona period, Bangladesh Environment Movement (Bapa) vice-president of Cox's Bazar district, journalist Nezam Uddin Ramur, planted various species of trees in his mother's name in Jumchari, his home area, in the hope of green afforestation. But known as a local drug dealer Abu Hannan, Md. Nabi, Kabir Ahmad, Bhutto, Jasim Uddin, Abul Mansoor, Shahina Akhtar together cut about 3 thousand planted saplings. He threatened Nezam with death for protesting. In this incident, a general diary (No-910/20) was made at Ramu police station on June 24 of the same year. On the basis of the application, Ruhul Amin Mrunsi, Deputy Inspector General of Police of Gorznia Police Station, received the investigation charge from Ramu Police Station and gave a report. Later (NGR 04/2021) it was sent to the court as a case with a report, and the case was taken into consideration and taken into the trial file. After presenting arguments to both sides, evidence of the incident was obtained. After arguments in the court on December 7, Senior Judicial Magistrate Akhtar Javed fixed December 14 for judgment. Accordingly, on Wednesday, six people were sentenced to one year in prison.
