A Chattogram court on Tuesday sentenced life-term imprisonment to six people in a murder case of Nurul Alam Raju in the city.
The court also acquitted 16 accused for not proved allegation against them. AKM Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, Judge of Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Chattogram, delivered the verdict on Tuesday.
The convicts are Jahir, Khurshed, Rakib, Ayub, Emon, and Dipu.
The court also fined each convict Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer imprisonment for one year more. According to the prosecution, the convicts, Raju was hacked to death on November 23, 2014 at Bibirhat under city's Panchlaish thana.
Mohiuddin Mahmud, the then officer in Charge of Panchliash thana said that Raju was an identified drug traders in the said area. He was killed by the same group of drug dealers in a dispute over the distribution of drug money. Victim's younger brother Kutobul Alam filed a case with Panchliash thana on November 24 in 2014. Police submitted charge sheet on December 5, in 2016 against the convicts while the court framed charges against them on June 25, 2019.
The court pronounced the verdict today after examining 15 prosecution witnesses out of 17 awarded the judgement convicting in presence of Imon and Dipu.
