A devastating fire gutted six dwelling houses at Bura Mosque area of Sripur Union under Boalkhali Upazila of Chattogram district.
The fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a dwelling house in the area at around 4 am today and quickly engulfed the adjoining houses, said Mong Sing Marma, Station Officer of Boalkhali Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Having information, a fire fighting unit from Boalkhali upazila rushed to the spot and put the blaze under control after a frantic effort at 6 am.
Nurul Islam, a viction and local fire service officials claimed that the fire damaged properties worth about Taka five lakh, the officer added.
