Although an 80-year old man died after being infected with coronavirus in Rajshahi, no patient with infection of the virus has been detected from the people in the district in last six days. The last patient bearing Coronavirus (Covid-19) was detected in the body of the 80-year aged person in the district on Monday. The patient breathed his last at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) at about 7:40 am on Sunday (April 26).
Confirming the matter, RMCH Deputy Director Saiful Ferdous said it was the first death from COVID-19 at the hospital and the district. The patient, hailing from Gaopara village of Bagha upazila in the district, was admitted to the hospital on April 17. As he developed fever and breathing problems and his X-ray revealed symptoms for coronavirus infection, his samples were sent for tests. The test came back positive for coronavirus on April 20 and he was shifted to Infectious Disease (ID) Hospital that runs under RMCH.
On Friday last, samples of 94 people were tested at the Corona Lab of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital but none of the test results found positive.
Dr. Bulbul Hasan, Head of Department of Microbiology of RMC informed, samples from 94 suspected Corona patients have been tested on Friday but not a single test result was positive. No patient bearing Coronavirus has been detected from Monday last in the district. The Coronavirus was last detected in an eighty-year-old person at Bagha upazila on Monday.
According to sources, om April-12, the first Covid-19 patient was detected in Rajshahi and till Monday last, eight people by being attacked with Coronavirus were detected in the district. Of those patients, five are from Puthia and one each from Bagmara, Mohanpur and Bagha upazilas. Among those eight Corona plus patients, seven came from Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur whereas it was no clear from where the person aged 80 of Bagha upazila was infected by the virus. Seven of those patients are getting treatment at the home isolations. So, far no patient with Coronavirus infection has been detected in Rajshahi Metropolitan area.
The aged Corona infected patient has been transferred to the Infectious Diseases hospital from RMCH. Fearing infection, 42 staff of RMCH including 21 doctors were sent to quarantine but no coronavirus was detected among them after testing their samples on Wednesday and on Thursday.
It is learnt, Rajshahi city has been put under lockdown since April-14 but people from other districts are entering Rajshahi on various pleas.
Dr. Enamul Haque, Civil Surgeon of Rajshahi, informed during last 24-hour ending at 8-00 am on Saturday, a total of 20 suspected Coronavirus carriers have been put under home quarantine in Rajshahi. Samples from their bodies will be collected for testing the presence of the virus.
