Shuvra Mukherjee’s 6th death anniversary observed in Narail

The 6th death anniversary of Shuvra Mukherjee, wife of the former Indian former President Pranab Mukherjee, was observed in a befitting manner in Narail on Wednesday.

A daylong programme was held marking the day at Tularampur Gopal and Kali Mandir premises in Narail sadar upazila maintaining social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Deputy Commissioner of Narail Muhammad Habibur Rahman attended the 6th death ceremony as the chief guest while Police Super Prabir Kumar Roy was present as special gueast in the death ceremony discussion meeting at 4 pm. 

Sadar upazila Nirbahi officer Sadia Islam, Narail Municipality Mayor and district Awami League vice-president Anjuman Ara, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sohanur Rahman Sohagh,director of Shuvra Mukherjee Foundation Ayon Chandra das addressed the 6th death anniversery function, among others. 

Shuvra Mukherjee Foundation trustee Kartik Chandra Ghos was in the chair while, Dr Alok Kumar Baghchi, former vice-president of Narail Press club Sultan Mahmood and Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Showkat Kabir were present in the function.

Shuvra, who was born in Bhadrabila village of Narail sadar upazila on September 17 in 1940, breathed her last at Indian Army Hospital on August 18 in 2015.As part of the programmes, Hindu religious rituals were observed on the premises of Sri Sri Gopal Mandin and Kari Mandir.

Addressing the function, Deputy Commissioner of Narail Muhammad Habibur Rahman said Shuvra Mukherjee loved the people of this country from the core of his heart, she worked as a bridge between Bangladesh, and India.Shuvra Mukherjee was a true friend of the peoples of Bangladesh, he said.

Shuvra was born to Amorendranath Ghosh and Meera Rani Ghosh. She was second among nine brothers and sisters. Her family migrated from Narail to Kolkata in 1950 when she was 10 years old.Shuvra was married to Pranab Mukherjee in 13 July 1957.

Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee visited Bhadrabila village in Narail along with Shuvra Mukherjee during his three-day official visit to Bangladesh in March 2013.
