In a joint operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries, approximately 15.5 million illegal shrimp fry worth around Tk 4.65 crore were seized from a suspicious truck near the old airport area in TengraKhali, Patuakhali on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, the truck—en route from Kuakata to Bagerhat—was intercepted during the raid. As the owner of the fry could not be identified, no one was arrested. The truck driver was released with a written undertaking.
The seized shrimp fry were later released into the Lohalia River in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer. The Bangladesh Coast Guard continues its 24/7 patrols to ensure law and order in coastal and riverine areas and has pledged to carry on such operations in the future.
