Actress Sharmin Zoha Shoshee, known for her roles in both dramas and movies, has recently been more prominent in television dramas than films. However, she's about to make a unique appearance in front of the audience in a different role. Historically, foreign serials have been dubbed into Bengali and broadcasted across various TV channels in the country. But for the first time, Sharmin Zoha Shoshee has lent her voice to dub a foreign series in Bengali.
The South Korean series 'Reply 1988' (Amader shomoy) has been translated into Bengali under the banner of SRK Studios. The Bengali version of the series is set to air on the OTT platform Bioscope in January. This series, written by Lee Woo-jung and produced by Sin Woo-jung, features Sharmin Zoha Shoshee's dubbing as the voice of the main character's older self, Dak Son.
Reflecting on the series during the dubbing process, Sharmin Zoha Shoshee mentioned, “While dubbing in Bengali, I pondered that the title 'Reply 1988 (Amader shomoy)' could encapsulate anything from love and affection to friendship.”
Khalid Hossain Avi, the dubbing producer of 'Reply 1988 (Amader shomoy),' expressed, “Out of all the foreign productions I have worked on during my 8-year career, this production holds a special place in my heart. It beautifully encapsulates the essence of the nineties.”
When asked about the web series, Sharmin Zoha Shoshee elaborated, “The series delves into the close-knit dynamics of families in the nineties. It revolves around five friends who grew up on the same street and their families. The original director meticulously portrays the intricate details of life from which I felt a sense of responsibility. Hence, I did not merely decide to dub this series; I aimed to decorate it in a manner similar to 10 other dramas and movies from our country. I strived to make it appear like a production native to our country. This posed the biggest challenge for me. I'm grateful to Allah and my producer Shiplu Rahman Khan for entrusting me with this production.”
The series also stars Ayesha Khan (Younger Deok Sun), Yash Rohan (Sun Woo), Zakia Bari Momo (Big Bo Ra), Kazi Kaniz (Little Bo Ra), Abdun Noor Sajal (Older Taek), and Samiul Jiban (Little so).
