Shortage of raw materials stops dialysis service

The dialysis service of Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital has been temporarily closed due to lack of raw materials for kidney dialysis.

Sandor, a dialysis service provider, has stopped operations since Thursday afternoon. Tk 31 crores due against Sandor's services in previous years, the notice said. Sandor authorities have hung a notice on the institution's gate.  It is mentioned that since last November 2022, many raw material suppliers have stopped partial and some complete supply.

Even though we stopped the salary of the officers and employees of the organization and started the dialysis service by purchasing the goods in cash, it is not possible to buy the goods in any way because we do not have enough cash in our hands.

The service may be interrupted in the next few days due to the lack of raw materials required for dialysis.

As dialysis services are highly sensitive emergency services, all concerned patients are requested to take alternative measures in advance.

Earlier, on January 4 last year, Sandor suspended the service by hanging a notice like this.  A year later, notices are again hanging there in the same manner.

Patients are in trouble as dialysis services are stopped.  Many expressed their anger as the session was supposed to start at noon.  They claim that they are trying to collect dues following the same procedure as last year.  It is also a kind of injustice to stop service activities on the excuse of raw materials.  They don't think about people's lives.  This is nothing but harassment.  Such a decision has been taken to recover the due amount.

Sandor senior executive Khaled Saifullah said that services have been temporarily stopped due to the shortage of some raw materials.  Our service was going on in the morning session as well.  The fee collected from the patients in the morning session was used to buy medicines in crisis.

He said, we buy raw materials for dialysis from a common company.  But they are not giving medicine due to huge amount due.  So we are having problem to provide service.

Brigadier General Shamim Ahsan, Director of CMC Hospital, said, "We are continuing our efforts to provide services to kidney patients.  In the meantime, fees are being charged from patients as per previous rules.  Dialysis service is stopped due to technical reasons but the service will be started soon.
