Shooters win silver in Jakarta

Bangladesh has won a silver medal in the ongoing ISSF Grand Prix in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Bangladesh's Shovon Chowdhury, Rabbi Hasan and Yusuf Ali won silver in the boys' 10m air rifle team event on Saturday.

On the first day, Nafisha Tabassum of Bangladesh won bronze in the women's 10m air rifle. After that, Nafisha also won bronze in the mixed team event by teaming up with Yusuf Ali.

Bangladesh lost to Singapore in the final of the boys' 10m air rifle team event. Guy Tianuri of Singapore, Lionel Zheng Joi Wong and Leyton Marat Veloso together scored 16. Bangladesh shooters scored 14 points.

Nafisa Tabassum, Syeda Atkia Hasan and Sajida Haque's Bangladesh team won bronze in the girls' 10m air rifle team event. The score of the bronze winning Bangladesh team is 618.2.

Earlier, Bangladesh girls scored 924.1 in the qualifying round. Indonesia and Singapore have reached the final of this event. On the way to the final, Indonesia scored 627.5 points. And Singapore's score is 622.5.

Bangladesh-1 team has been eliminated from the semi-final of mixed pistol event. Shakil Ahmed and Anjila Amjad took part in this team.

Bangladesh's success drought in rifle event in international competition is very long. In Rifle, Bangladesh did not enjoy much has since Swedish coach Claus Christiensen left his job in 2018 in a show of contempt with federation officials.

The Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation had relied on local coaches for so many days for this event. However, Mohammad Zayer Rezai was brought in from Iran as a coach last month. The shooters of Bangladesh have started reaping the benefits of one month of practice under this coach who has achieved success in the international arena.
