After 47-year of inaction from 1975, the Shiva and Kalimata temple at Khojapur under Rajshahi Metropolitan area has been reopened for the devotees with the sounds of drums on March-1 Tuesday.

It is learnt, the owner of the adjacent land of the temple Korban Ali has constructed a road connecting the temple and the devotees have now an easy access to the temple.  Earlier, there having no connecting road with the temple, people used to visit the temple by crossing the outer gate of the house of Korban Ali.

Monoranjan Sarker, Coordinator of Khojapur Sarbajanin Shiva and Kali Temple Committee informed, the last Kali Puja (worship) was held at the temple in 1975. Afterwards, no one take the initiative to arrange any worship at the temple. The temple constructed during the British rule was later purchased by one Korban Ali of the area who purchased the land surrounding the temple. From that time in 1975, the door of the temple remained closed as none of the devotees visited the temple by traversing the land of Korban. This year, the Puja Observance Committee proposed Korban Ali to allow them to use the road connecting to the temple and Korban Ali agreed to their proposal.

Korban Ali said, the surrounding land and the temple belonged to King Hare Krishna Roy Chowdhury and he purchased the land from Sudhir Kumar Roy, grandson of Hare Krishna Roy  in 1980-'82. After purchasing the land surrounding the temple, he asked everyone to conduct worship at the temple as usual but no one offered any worship there so far.

On Tuesday evening, a large number of devotees were seen to gather at the temple premises to offer worship there. Though unused for decades, the structure and the design of the temple is still intact.

Dipali Sarker(50) with her husband  were seen to offer worship at the temple. She said, hearing about holding the worship at the temple, they were visiting the place.

Debashish Talukder, former Chief Scientific Officer of BCSIR, Rajshahi was also visiting the temple to offer worship there. He said, after getting the news of arranging worship at the temple, he rushed there to offer prayer.
