‘Shishu Bokta’ Madani on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed ‘Shishu Bokta’ (child preacher)Rafiqul Islam Madani on a three-day remand in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over the March 26 violence in the city following the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Metropolitan Magistrate Debdash Chandra Adhikary passed the order.

Earlier Sub-Inspector Md Zahidul Alam of Paltan Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court. He sought a seven-day remand.

Earlier in the day, Rafiqul was shown arrested in the case.

The IO in the remand prayer said Rafiqul was involved with the mayhem through his provocative speeches against Narendra Modi, so Rafiqul needed to be interrogated in police custody for information regarding the reason behind his provocative speeches.

Rafiqul Islam was sent to jail on completion of his 16-day remand in three cases filed with Motijheel and Tejgaon police stations under the Digital Security Act and the Penal Code on May 10.

RAB arrested Rafiqul from his ancestral home in Netrakona's Purbatola area On April 7.
