Shaheed Sheikh Russel Half Marathon, named after the youngest son of Bangladesh's founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been postponed. The event, originally scheduled for Friday at Hatirjheel Lake, has been rescheduled due to the recent impact of Cyclone Remal.
Jahangir Alam, President of the Dhaka International Marathon, confirmed the postponement in a circular issued on Wednesday. The notification cited the widespread disruption caused by Cyclone Remal, which has affected an estimated 12 million people across the country.
Given the ongoing effects of the cyclone, organizers made the decision to postpone the half marathon "in consideration of the overall situation." They have assured participants that the event will be rescheduled for a suitable time in July, weather permitting.
Those who have already registered for the half marathon will not need to register again.
The organizers sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this temporary postponement.
