Eminent Indian actress and Padma Shri awardee Shaoli Mitra breathed her last on Sunday afternoon. She was 74 years old at the time of passing.
She was known for portraying Bangabala from Ritwik Ghatak's "Jukti Takko Aar Gappo".
Born in 1948, she was the daughter of noted theatre personalities SombhuMitra and TriptiMitra. She was away from media attention for a long period of time.
Rituals for her funeral were done at the crematory. She was suffering from health complications.
Mitra was honored with the coveted Padma Shri award in 2009. Considered as one of the powerful actresses in the arena of Indian theatre, she had performed in critically acclaimed plays including the likes of "Pagla Ghora", "Nothoboti Onathbot", "Putul Khela", and "Ekti Rajnoitik Hotya" among others.
She was also the former Chairperson of Bangla Academy. The cultural arena is mourning her demise.
