Shakib to play in CPL for Antingua, Barbuda Falcons

Former world number one all rounder Shakib Al Hasan confirmed to make his return to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after a three-season interval having been drafted by the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons for the 2025 season.

Shakib's team will take to the field in Antigua in the opening match of the season, where their opponent will be the Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

The former Bangladesh skipper, who made his debut in the CPL in 2013, last time played in the Caribbean Premier League in 2022 season when it would be sixth for him overall. In his previous appearances, the veteran all-rounder represented three different franchises -- Barbados Royals, Jamaica Tallawahs, and Guyana Amazon Warriors -- across five seasons. This will be his debut stint with the Antigua-based franchise.

Shakib, who win two CPL titles for Jamaica Tallawahs (2016) and Barbados Tridents (2019), at his debut appearance for Barbados Royal claiming six wickets for just six runs holds the record of best bowling figures in the tournament's history.

The 2025 edition of six-team CPL is scheduled to kick off with Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will be taking the St Kitts and Nevis Patriotson August 14 .    

A total of 34 group-stage matches will be played with each team featuring in 10 games when the curtain will fall of more than a month long tournamnet on September 21 with the final on September 21.
