A lot of people heard about Magura’s Nomani Maidan’s influence at Shakib Al Hasan’s rise in cricket. He caught everyone’s attention by playing on this ground in his hometown, Magura, at a young age. Now, country’s ace all-rounder is running election campaign at Magura. However, he still made time out for cricket and played at the venue on Friday morning.
Former players of the district took part in the friendly match on the occasion of Victory Day. Shakib enjoyed this match as he smashed countless boundaries with his willow. Later, he said after the match, ‘My cricket career began on this ground. There was not a big wall at that time behind me. There was a plum tree, a corrugated iron roof building, and a small wall. I sat there and watched practice.’
Speaking about the old days, Shakib said, ‘Gorki Bhai asked me to play here for his team. He chose me to watch a tournament. But I could not come to this ground on the first day as I was a bit ashamed.’
‘I sat there; I came the next day in the afternoon. He said to bowl. I bowled a little on the first day. I did spin bowling two days later and batted. I came to him for training every day in the evening,’ said Shakib.
