Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan reached the 7000-run mark against Ireland in the opening ODI of the three-match series on Saturday, becoming just the second player from his nation to do so after Tamim Iqbal.

Before the game, the left-handed batter needed 24 runs to reach the milestone; he finally did so in the 20th over when he singled off Curtis Campher's bowling after driving a full-length delivery down the ground.

Shakib is the only player to have scored more runs for Bangladesh overall than Tamim Iqbal. Tamim has scored 8146 runs at an average of 36.69 from 235 games.

Tamim’s average is only slightly higher than Shakib’s, with Shakib scoring 7000 runs in 228 games at an average of 37.83 and a strike rate of 82.30.

With 6901 ODI runs, Mushfiqur Rahim is second only to Shakib and is likely to surpass 7000 runs during the current series.

Only three cricketers have passed 7000 ODI runs and 300 wickets. Only ShahidAfridi and SanathJayasuriya had accomplished the feat with Shakib.
