Shaira Arefin clinched gold medal at the Suzuki 11th National Airgun Championship held at the Shooting Complex in Gulshan, organized by the Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation (BSSF) on Saturday.
She believes that this victory will serve as inspiration for her performance in the upcoming Olympics. Every young shooter aspires not only to win medals but also to establish their reputation on the international stage. Participants in the 11th National Airgun Championship harbored big dreams, and those who performed well in the tournament secured a guaranteed spot in the BSSF training camp.
The Bangladesh Army Shooting Association celebrated their championship title, while the Navy Shooting Club secured the runner-up position. However, all eyes were on Shaira Arefin, who will represent Bangladesh in the Olympics.
Shaira Arefin expressed, “Winning a gold medal will be immensely beneficial. However, there is room for improvement in terms of practice.”
Several talented shooters emerged from this year’s national championships. BSSF Secretary General, Entekhabul Hamid Opu, stated, “To identify the most promising shooters, the federation plans to organize special training camps in the future.”
Opu further explained, “We scout players from every discipline, seeking out new talent. Our focus is on junior shooters who perform well. We aim to select those with consistently high scores.”
French Ambassador to Dhaka, Marie Masdupe, presented the prizes to the winners. He assured that France remains committed to supporting the shooting federation. Masdupe remarked, “We are delighted to collaborate with the federation and visit this promising organization. Let’s explore opportunities for cooperation between your federation and ours.”
