After an eight-year absence, acclaimed journalist Shafik Rehman is set to return to television with his iconic show Lal Golap on Banglavision. The beloved magazine programme, which has captivated viewers in Bangladesh and beyond, will return to screens on December 1.
Lal Golap was last aired in 2016, shortly before Rehman left the country. Now, with his return amid shifting political tides, Banglavision has approached him to revive the programme. Rehman, 90, who is known for his eloquent style and influential media presence, was eager to accept the offer.
“The name Lal Golap has become inseparably tied to me," Rehman said. "It's a show that has resonated with viewers both in Bangladesh and abroad. After being off-air for so long, I’m truly delighted to return to it. I hope our viewers will enjoy the thoughtful content we’ve planned and share it with their families once again.”
Rehman confirmed that two episodes have already been filmed, and if all goes as planned, the show will debut on December 1. According to sources at Banglavision, Lal Golap will retain its signature format but with some fresh updates. Each episode will centre on a specific theme, featuring segments such as movie excerpts, behind-the-scenes stories, and in-depth interviews with prominent guests.
Tarek Akhand, head of programming at Banglavision, praised the unique appeal of Lal Golap. “In an age where many channels strive for originality, Lal Golap remains distinct,” he said. “It offers a rich, multifaceted experience, far from the typical talk show format. Shafik Rehman’s reputation as one of the country’s most respected journalists only elevates the show further.”
Produced by Tahmina Mukta, Lal Golap will air every Sunday at 11:30 p.m. The programme will continue its tradition of blending informative content with entertainment, covering both national and international events, and offering viewers a mix of thought-provoking discussion and cinematic enjoyment.
