Rajshahi University syndicate has decided to relieve Prof Md Enamul Haque, a teacher of psychology department, of all his professional duties for two years.
The punitive action against Prof Enamul was taken in a meeting of the syndicate on Sunday for sexually harassing two of his colleagues in the department in May, several syndicate members said.
The decision will take effect within a week when the minutes of the syndicate meeting will be signed, said RU Vice Chancellor Prof Golam Shabbir Sattar, who chaired the syndicate meeting.
"The decision was taken following the High Court guidelines of 2010 on preventing sexual harassments on campuses," said Assistant Prof Sadiqul Islam Sagor, a member of the syndicate.
In May, nine teachers of the psychology department filed a complaint to the VC alleging that two of the department teachers were sexually harassed by Prof Enamul.
A committee, formed under HC directives to prevent sexual harassment on campuses, investigated the allegations and later submitted its report to the syndicate.
