Severe cold hits Thakurgaon

Winter has hit the northern parts of the country including Thakurgaon district severely.

Thakurgaon people have been suffering severely due to thick fog and extreme cold. Moreover, cold-related disease among children and the elderly is also on the rise.

Thakurgaon district is in the grip of a cold wave for the second time this winter. Mist like rain is falling every evening that continues till noon the next day. Vehicles are moving with headlights on as there is thick fog all around.

Extremely poor and rootless people are suffering the most. These helpless people are starving for half a day because they are unable to go to work.

Due to the dense fog, various crops, including the seedbed of Boro paddy, are also on the verge of being damaged.

Children's diseases are increasing due to the intense cold. The number of patients suffering from cold, cough, diarrhea and pneumonia has increased in Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital.

Poor auto-rickshaw drivers said they could not operate properly because of the severe winter so; their income has decreased. But still, they go out ignoring the stinging cold for livelihood. Otherwise, they would have to starve.

Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon KM Kamruzzaman Selim said 26,000 blankets and Tk 3 million in cash, received from the PM's office, has been distributed among cold-hit destitute in 5 upazilas of the district. He called upon the rich to come forward to help the cold-stricken poor people.
