A joint operation by the District Administration and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has led to the arrest of seven middlemen at the 250-bed Noakhali Government General Hospital. The accused were sentenced to various terms by a mobile court.

The operation took place on Sunday afternoon, led by Executive Magistrate Mehrab Hossain and Acting Commander of RAB-11 Noakhali Camp, Mithun Kumar Kundu.

It was revealed that for a long time, these middlemen had been harassing patients both inside and outside the hospital premises. They lured patients visiting the government hospital with false promises and convinced them to seek treatment at private hospitals instead, earning large commissions in return.

Acting on these complaints and intelligence, the authorities raided the hospital and arrested several individuals from different locations within the facility. After verification, seven middlemen were identified and handed sentences by the mobile court.

Among those sentenced, Milon, Harun, and Sajib received 15 days’ imprisonment each. Ratan was sentenced to 30 days, while Akram Hossain received 7 days in jail and a fine of 50 taka. Swapan and Masud were given 15 days’ imprisonment each along with a 50-taka fine.

RAB In-Charge Mithun Kumar Kundu stated that the convicted individuals were sent to the district jail. He assured that the campaign to ensure proper public service in government hospitals will continue uninterrupted.
