The Sesquicentennial anniversary celebration programme of Jantiapur Govt High School was inaugurated at the school at Jaintiapur upazila in Sylhet on Saturday amid much enthusiasm. Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad inaugurated the two-day programme as the chief guest.
Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Imran Ahmed’s wife and Pro Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Nasrin Ahmed, chairman of Jaintiapur Upazila Parishad Kamal Ahmed, former chairmen Jainal Abedin and Alhajj Siraj Uddin and others spoke at the inaugural ceremony. Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out at Jaintiapur upazila sadar marking 150th founding anniversary of the school.
Hundreds of former students of the school, many of whom have not seen each other for many years, gathered to celebrate memories and catch up with old friends at the massive reunion marking the sesquicentennial anniversary. At the function, they rekindled their relations with one another as well as their teachers recently.
Expressing his feeling, a former student said, “It was the great opportunity to come to the campus after many days. We gathered there with smiles and hugs marking the sesquicentennial anniversary celebration programme.” Jantiapur Govt High School was established in 1867.
