Seized 1,600 kgs onion auctioned in Lakshmipur

A Lakshmipur court ordered to auction 1,600 kilogrammes of onion seized from a store of the town by the law enforcement agency members on Tuesday night. 

According to sources, on November-16, NSI officials sealed a store containing 1,600 kilogrmme (42 sacs) of onion and filed a case with the local court. The court on Tuesday ordered to sell the onion through auction. 

In presence of the officials of local administration, the onion was auctioned at Gangjhata Bazaar around 8:00 pm on Tuesday. Five onion traders participated in the auction, among them, local trader Sherajul Islam purchased the onion at the highest rate. 

Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shafiuzzaman Bhuiyan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shafiqur Redowan Aram Shakil, Market Control officer Monir Hossain, Vice-President of the Merchants' Association Azizur Rahman were present during the auction sale.  

The seized local variety of onion was sold at Tk 100 per kilogramme and imported Egyptian onion was sold at Tk 76 per kilogramme in the auction. The mobile court directed the trader to sell the onion at Tk 2.00 profit per kilogramme.
