In a show of inclusive development efforts, two welfare-oriented programmes were held on the same day in Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi, where wheelchairs were distributed to persons with special needs and agricultural inputs were provided to local farmers.

The initiatives were undertaken by the Upazila Parishad Development Fund and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Anwar Hossain attended the programmes as the chief guest.

A ceremony was held on Tuesday morning at the Upazila Parishad auditorium, where 900 farmers received government-sponsored agricultural assistance. Each farmer was provided with five kilogrammes of improved-quality seeds, 10 kilogrammes of DAP fertiliser and 10 kilogrammes of MOP fertiliser aimed at boosting crop production.

Officials said the incentive programme is expected to play a significant role in ensuring food security amid evolving agricultural challenges.

During the same event, 23 persons with disabilities were given wheelchairs under a social welfare initiative of the upazila administration. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, which they said would greatly improve their mobility and quality of life.

Special guests at the event included Subrata Kanti Dutta, Additional Deputy Director (Horticulture) of the DAE in Narsingdi; Monohardi Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Sajib Mia; and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Rashedul Hasan Mahmud, among others.
The event was chaired by Monohardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M. A. Muhaimin Al Jihan.

Addressing the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of timely agricultural incentives to increase production and strengthen national food security. “The government is working tirelessly to modernise agriculture and make it sustainable,” he said. “Farmers are the driving force of the country, and we are committed to standing beside them at all times.”

Following the programme, the Deputy Commissioner held an exchange of views with officials of the upazila administration, discussing ongoing development activities and future priorities.
