Secretaries’ Committee, the highest policy making forum of the secretaries of different ministries, has asked for beefing up security of all key point installations (KPIs) and the field level government offices across the country. The committee also asked KPIs authorities to strengthen security of respective installations at their own initiative. The ministries, divisions, departments and organisations concerned has been asked to submit their reports as early as possible in this connection, sources said.
On 12 May last a meeting of the Secretaries’ Committee was held which was presided over by cabinet division secretary Md Shafiul Alam, ex officio president of the committee. Following the meeting, different ministries and organisations have been sending report on their initiatives taken to beef up security of the KPIs and field level government offices.
Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Md Sahadat Hossain admitted of receiving instruction in this regard. “Instruction has been given to ensure security of the KPIs. Already enough number of CCTVs have been installed at the KPIs under our jurisdiction. After receiving the letter some more CCTVs have been installed to beef up security. We’ll send report to the authority concerned about the measures taken by us,” he said.
Public Works Department (PWD) officials said as per the decision of the Secretaries Committee meeting, PWD has received a letter from the ministry of Housing and Relief. The letter, signed by deputy secretary Suraiya Begum, said security of the KPIs will have to be strengthened at their own initiative. At the same time, measures will have to be taken to ensure security of the ministries, divisions, departments and their field level offices.
The government KPIs include Jatiya Sangsad, Prime Minister’s Office, Secretariat, Bangabhaban, Ganabhaban, Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, Courts, Fire Service Station, Power Plants, Jatiya Smritisoudha, Government Printing Press, Airport, National Achieve, National Museum, Fuel storage tank of Railways and Titas Gas, Bangbandhu Bridge and under-construction Padma Bridge. Beside the self-security system of these institutions, different security team of the government also work to ensure security of those.
