Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the chairman of Nagoik Oikya, has announced that final discussions regarding seat-sharing with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for the upcoming national election are scheduled to be completed within this week. He made this statement while speaking to journalists after a road meeting in the Kichak Bandar area of Bogura's Shibganj upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Manna clarified that while preliminary discussions on constituency allocations have already taken place, a formal agreement has not yet been finalized. He noted that there was a prior understanding between the parties and expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved shortly.
On the topic of the alliance's election symbol, Manna stated that they would strictly follow the guidelines issued under the Representation of the People Order (RPO). He added that while they can request revisions, they cannot operate outside its legal framework.
Regarding the number of seats, Manna revealed that the alliance had collectively sought 142 constituencies. For his own party, Nagoik Oikya, he mentioned they might contest in 25 to 30 seats.
During the road meeting, Manna emphasized the need for a good government to build a new Bangladesh, stating that a good party leads to a good government. He reiterated that he holds no personal enmity toward anyone and is willing to work with those committed to public welfare.
He also shared that BNP's Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman had expressed a desire to include Nagoik Oikya in the alliance, acknowledging their long-standing role in the opposition movement.
The event was attended by several senior leaders of Nagoik Oikya, including central joint general secretary Sakib Anwar and the party's Gazipur convener, Dr. Rana.
