A new poster for ‘Scream 2022’ taps heavily into the tradition of retro horror film posters. With only weeks to go until the franchise’s latest entry hits theaters, Paramount Pictures are busy ramping up promotion for what is anticipated to be a fresh relaunch of the beloved slasher property. With over 25 years since the release of Wes Craven’s first film and more than a decade since the most recent installment in the series, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are set to introduce a whole new generation of characters alongside franchise stalwarts Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell.

With the film rights originally owned by controversial film producer Harvey Weinstein’s production house, following the collapse of The Weinstein Company, the future of the Scream franchise was left in serious doubt. In late 2019, however, Spyglass Media Group swooped in to pick up the rights for a fifth film, and within four months, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett were officially attached to the project with production ready to get underway. Quelling fears of a complete series reboot, by May 2020, it was revealed that Arquette would be returning as fan-favorite Dewey Riley, and that Campbell was also engaged in negotiations to appear. Cox would later reveal her own participation via social media in July of that year.

Now, the official ‘Scream’ Twitter account has shared a new poster from professional poster designer, Creepy Duck Design. Leaning heavily into the retro aesthetic of 1980s horror film posters, the image features the iconic Ghostface dripping blood with the slogan, “It’s always someone you know.”
