Schuman traineeship opens at European Parliament for foreign students

Published : 12 Jun 2025 08:34 PM

The European Parliament has announced its latest call for applications to the prestigious Schuman traineeships. Every year, around 800 trainees are selected from across Europe and beyond to gain first-hand experience in the heart of EU decision-making.

The Schuman traineeship offers a unique opportunity to understand how the European Union, especially the Parliament, works. Selected candidates get to work directly with Members of Parliament and staff, contributing to the daily activities of this important political institution.

The traineeships are paid, with a monthly allowance of €1,647 in Brussels and Luxembourg from January 2025. The amount is adjusted for other locations based on local costs of living. Each programme lasts for five months and starts either in March or October. Workplaces include the Parliament’s offices in Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, and Liaison Offices in EU member states.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, hold a university degree, provide a clean criminal record, and have excellent knowledge of one official EU language along with very good knowledge of another. Citizens from outside the EU must be fluent in English, French, or German.

There are over 400 positions available in fields such as communication, law, multilingualism, international relations, administration, IT, HR, and more.

The European Parliament is committed to equal opportunities and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds. A special Positive Action Scheme is also available for persons with disabilities, offering additional financial support and workplace accommodations.

Applications for the October 2025 session open in May, while those for the March 2026 session will open in October.
