A schoolteacher was shot dead in a clash over establishing supremacy at Kasbamajail Union of Pangsha upazila of Rajbari. Police recovered his body from the Gorai River in Subarnakhola village on Friday. Police have arrested six suspects in connection with the incident.

The deceased  was identified as Asadul Bari Khan, 42, son of Khorshed Khan of Subarnakhola village of Kasbamajail Union. He was an assistant teacher of Sengram High School in Khoksa Upazila of Kushtia.

Family members of Asadul claimed he had prior enmity with local resident Jaz Ali Biswas. They believe he is the one responsible for Asadul’s murder. Saddam Khan, nephew of the deceased, said Asadul was returning home after visiting his sick uncle at dawn while a group of miscreants killed him. There were bullet marks found on his legs and chest.

Rajbari Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman said about 150 police men were deployed on the spot after receiving the news of the murder of Asadul Bari Khan. It is learned that there is an enmity between the groups of Jaz Ali Biswas and Kamruzzaman Khan, Chairman of Kasbamajail union parishad. This murder could have happened in context to that enmity, he added. So far, no case has been filed on behalf of the deceased’s family. Police will take proper actions after the case is filed, he said.
