Schoolboy killed for protesting eve-teasing

A schoolboy in Begunbari union of Thakurgaon sadar upazila was stabbed to death after he stood up against teenage hoodlums who were harassing a girl. The victim identified is Russell Rana (15). Following this incident, Police have arrested 7 people. Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police Muha Moniruzzaman has informed the media on this regard at a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

Seven people - Helal Islam (22) of Bhopal village in Begunbari union of sadar upazila, Naeem Islam Nasir (19) of West Bhopla village, Quddus Ali Sundar (17), Ratan Islam (18), Sohel Islam (22) of Bochapukur Daktarpara village, Al Amin Islam Shahin (20) of North Bochapukur village and Samiul Islam (28) of Bochapukur Bishurdighi village – have been arrested.

The police superintendent said that the arrested youths used to harass a teenager from West Bhopla village of the union. Russell, a student of class 8, intervened and stood up against those teenage hoodlums. The enraged teenage gang members then threatened the schoolboy.

Later, on April 24, in the name of resolving the issue of eve-teasing, the members of that teenage gang took Russell to the Eidgah field near his house. At that time, they brutally hacked and stabbed the schoolboy with a sharp weapon. At one stage, the members of the gang cut his throat and killed him. They then dumped the body of the slain schoolboy in a nearby paddy field and fled.
