A school teacher injured in clashes at Puthia upazila died during treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Sunday early morning.
The victim was identified as Sohel Rana (35) son of freedom fighter Abdus Sobhan Ali of Mahendra village of the upazila and Assistant Teacher of Domadi Government Primary School under Puthia upazila. Badiuzzaman Bodi, Chairman of Belpukur Union of Puthia informed, recently Abdus Sobhan Ali purchased a shop at Mahendra Bazaar but Tajul Islam and Majedul Islam, sons of Bhadu Mia of the same village claimed the place of the shop belonged to them. There were several rural arbitrations on the issue but there was no solution.
On Friday morning ( 29 Jan.) both sides again sat for the arbitration at Mahendra bazaar. At a stage of the arbitration meeting, Tajul, Majedul along with their cohort Jubayer beat Sohel Rana on the head with sticks making him unconscious on the spot. Later, local people rushed him to RMCH where he died during treatment.
Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Belpukur police station informed, Abdus Sobhan father of Sohel Rana filed a case accusing several people in this connection. Police arrested Majedul Islam and sent him to jail.
Dead body of Sohel Rana has been sent to the morgue of RMCH for autopsy. Police were trying to arrest other accused of the case.
