SCBA president Matin Khasru on life support

Abdul Matin Khasru, an Awami League MP and newly elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), has been on life support since Tuesday morning.

He was put on life support at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka at about 11:30 am after his health condition worsened. Advocate Md Mahin, personal assistant to Abdul Matin Khasru, confirmed the the media of the matter.

Abdul Matin Khasru, also a former law minister and incumbent chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, was elected president of the SCBA for the 2021-2022 session on March 13 following the two-day elections held on March 11 and 12.

The new committee of the SCBA took charge from the outgoing committee at the annual general meeting-2021 held at Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium of SCBA on Monday (April 12). Leaders of the newly elected committee were greeted with bouquets by the leaders of the outgoing committee. Abdul Matin Khasru could not join the AGM as well as the installation ceremony for his illness.

The SCBA president was admitted to the CMH on March 16 hours after he had tested positive for Covid-19 at the Parliament Secretariat Medical Centre. He was shifted to the ICU of the CMH on March 28 as his condition had deteriorated. He was shifted from the ICU to the general cabin on April 3 as he tested Covid-19 negative on April 1. He was again shifted to the ICU on April 6.

Abdul Matin Khasru is a presidium member of the ruling Awami League. He served as the law minister during the party’s 1996-2001 regime. He was also elected MP from Cumilla-5 during the 1991-1996, 1996-2001, 2008-2013 and 2014-2019 terms.
