Satkhira-Free Day was observed on Monday (December 7) amid various programmes, including hoisting of national flag, discussion meeting and rally.

MP from Satkhira-2 constituency Mir Mostaq Ahmed Robi addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Satkhira SM Mostafa Kamal in the chair. Police Super Md Mostafizur Rahman and former commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad Md Mosharraf Hossain Mashu spoke at the event, among others.

At the end of the discussion, the rally was brought out in the district town that paraded different roads.

On December 7 in 1971, Satkhira was liberated from Pakistani occupation forces. The freedom fighters entered the Satkhira town through firing blank shot.  The flag of independent Bangladesh was hoisted on that day.

The freedom-loving people came down to the street with the freedom fighters on that day.

The freedom fighters at the discussion said that even after 49 years of victory, there is no visible initiative to preserve the slaughterhouses and massacre sites of Satkhira. They called to identify the massacre sites at Satkhira district town and adjacent to Satkhira Government High School.
