The district administration has seized 4,260 kg Govindbhoga mangoes mixed with carbide in Satkhira. Carbide-laced mangoes were seized from Madhavkati area of Satkhira Sadar upazila on Monday night.
District Administration Executive Magistrate and NDC Bappi Datta Roni confirmed the incident and said that Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Monir Hossain was sent to the spot on the basis of news that carbide mixed mangoes were being sent to Dhaka from Madhavkati area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila on Monday night. And he reached the spot and seized the mangoes. Later on behalf of the district administration, I and Executive Magistrate Sajib Talukder after visiting the spot found the fact of mixing carbide.
Later, the mangoes were seized and kept in the custody of Sadar police station.
He also said that since the owner could not be found, it was not possible to impose a fine.
On Tuesday afternoon, the mobile court destroyed 4,260 kg of seized mangoes containing 213 carats of chemicals mixed with chemicals in the city's Bankal area.
The Executive Magistrate warned all the mango traders of Satkhira that legal action will be taken against anyone who collects mangoes from trees before the stipulated time or markets unsanitary mangoes mixed with carbide and chemicals.
