Journalists working in Sarishabari held a human chain protest demanding justice for the brutal killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, a staff reporter of Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, who was hacked to death in Gazipur.

They also called for swift justice for attacks on journalists across the country.

The one-hour protest took place on Monday afternoon on the Sarishabari-Jamalpur highway in front of the Sarishabari Press Club. It was organised under the banner of local journalists from print and electronic media.

The event was presided over by Sarishabari Press Club president Ibrahim Hossain Lebu and moderated by general secretary Zakaria Jahangir.

Among the speakers were vice president M.A. Rouf, former president Solaiman Hossain Harek, senior journalists Zahurul Islam Thandu, Solaiman Babu, Abul Hossain, freedom fighter Abdul Aziz, Shahidullah Shahid VP, Mostak Ahmed Monir, and Ismail Hossain.

Speakers expressed deep concern over the rising violence against journalists in Bangladesh.

They stated that due to loopholes in existing laws, victims' families often do not receive justice, leading to continued attacks.

The protestors demanded the cancellation of repressive laws, introduction of journalist protection laws, guaranteed safety for journalists, and the maximum punishment for those responsible for Tuhin’s murder through a speedy trial tribunal.
