Los Angeles-based DJ and music producer Sanjoy is making waves around the world, blending global beats with his Bangladeshi roots. Born in Bangladesh and raised in the US, Sanjoy’s musical journey is one of rhythm, nostalgia, and endless curiosity.
“I think Bangla music never left me,” shared Sanjoy, recalling his early days growing up on Habib Wahid and Fuad songs. This year alone, he’s performed in Dhaka three times — from intimate corporate gigs to a 30,000-strong crowd at a Bangladesh vs Singapore football match.
Sanjoy’s sound is a restless mix of house, hip hop, European dance, and desi folk. His breakthrough came during his college years when a remix went viral, eventually leading him to India’s music scene and collaborations with stars like Guru Randhawa.
His recent focus, however, has turned back home. Collaborating with artists like Muza, Russell Ali, and Fuad Al Muqtadir, Sanjoy has been crafting tracks rooted in Bangla folk, fusing them with modern electronic elements. His upcoming release ‘Jai Dube’ was recorded and shot in Dhaka, promising to carry that same fusion vibe.
“I don’t just want to remix a Baul vocal over a beat. I want to create something that moves someone in LA or Dhaka the same way,” he said.
Sanjoy works on the go — from airports to train stations — sampling sounds from the streets. His live sets feel like global travel diaries, layering local folk samples with Brazilian funk, Czech house, and melodic tech.
His dream? To headline Coachella’s Sahara Tent and one day bring a world-class music festival to Bangladesh. “I want the world to see our music on that kind of stage,” Sanjoy added.
