Sangrai, Boishabi celebrations cancelled

In the face of the coronavirus crisis, it was decided not to observe Sangrai, the annual festival of the Marama community in Bandarban on Friday.

Chairman of Bandarban Zilla Parishad, Kya Shoi Hla informed about the decision to postpone all New Year's ceremonies in an emergency press conference at the hall room of the Zila Parishad in the morning.

Bandarban Zila Parishad Chairman said, corona virus  has now taken shape into a pandemic all over the world. Already in Bangladesh it is taking an awful shape. Therefore, all the programs of Bangla New Year have been suspended in Bandarban district for the benefit of the country and the nation. 

He also said that on the occasion of New Year, all the Buddhist monks staying in the district's 418 Buddhist monasteries will be provided with sufficient food items for the New Year's tribute by the Zila Parishad.

Chairman of the Zilla Parishad said that although the New Year celebration is suspended, all the locked down villages, Para and Buddhist Bihar of Bandarban will be provided with food items. During the press conference Zila Parishad Chairman Kya Shoi Hla, Member Kysa Pru, Member Kanchan Joy Tanchanga and journalists were present.
