Salah’s brace sees Liverpool beat 10-man Everton

A second half double from Mohamed Salah was enough to give Liverpool a 2-0 win and secure bragging rights over Everton at Anfield on Saturday.

Anfield was the venue as Everton travelled across Stanley Park to take on a Liverpool side who would go top of the Premier League with a win.

It took the Toffees all of 20 seconds to have their first effort on goal but Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header was saved comfortably by Alisson.

Jürgen Klopp’s side looked in the mood though, and almost scored on 12 minutes as a lightning fast break saw Luis Diaz go in on goal but the Colombia international had his effort blocked by Ashley Young.

After that bright start however, things calmed down somewhat as Everton kept the home side at bay.

But the away side’s hard work in defence was undone on 37 minutes as Ashley Young hacked Luis Diaz down outside the area for his second booking.

Into the second half and Everton were understandably packing men behind the ball and trying to frustrate their hosts as they attacked the Kop.

As the half went on Liverpool were getting more and more desperate but they got their chance to take the lead on 74 minutes as a penalty was given for handball by Michael Keane.

It was Mohamed Salah who stepped up and the Egypt international rifled in from the spot.

And then in the dying moments of the game, Salah struck again after good work from Darwin Nunez to secure the win.
