Sailor Hadisur’s family receives $5 lakh, brother gets job

The family of third engineer Hadisur Rahman, who was killed in a missile strike on the MV Banglar Samridhhi ship in the Ukrainian port of Olvia, has received 5 lakh 5 thousand dollar in compensation.

Besides, Hadisur Rahman's brother has been given a job in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC).  At the same time the other officers and sailors of the ship have been given compensation equal to 7 months salary.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury handed over the compensation check at a function at BSC's regional office on Thursday.

The family of the slain Hadisur Rahman and other officials and sailors have been given compensation checks amounting to a total of Tk 7.5 crore including 7 months salary, the Ministry of Shipping said. The Shipping minister said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is an icon of our courage."  What happens if you have the courage - the proof of the Padma Bridge, which is going to be inaugurated on June 25.  We lost the ship MV Banglar Samridhhi.  We will be enriched by collecting more ships.  Do not lose courage and morale.  Officers and sailors will re-joins the workplace.

Shipping minister said, "We will not get Hadisur back."  Hadisur's father told me on the telephone after the accident that Hadisur was our only recourse.  Where are we going?  This check found a way out.  Hadisur's brother has been given a job in BSC.  In the future, according to his qualifications, a permanent job will be arranged in an organization under the Ministry of Shipping.

The ship was damaged by a missile fired during the Ukraine-Russia war on March 2.

BSC Managing Director Commodore SM Moniruzzaman presided over the meeting.  Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md. Mostafa Kamal, Managing Director of Sadharan Insurance Corporation Syed Shahriar Ahsan, Director General of Shipping Department Commodore Abu Jafar Md. Jalal Uddin, Bangladesh Representative of Insurance Broker Teaser and Company, BSC officials were present on the occasion.

It is to be mentioned that the ship 'MV Banglar Samridhhi' was damaged by a missile during the Russian military operation in Ukraine on March 2 this year.  Hadisur, the ship's third engineer, was killed in a rocket attack on the Ukrainian Olvia port.  The ship, which was damaged by the shelling, was declared abandoned.  The ship's 29 sailors were repatriated via Moldova-Romania.  Hadisur's body was brought to the country on March 14.  He was later buried at his home in Borguna.
