Saidpur Railway Workshop repaired 127 coaches ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, despite operating with nearly 73 per cent of its sanctioned workforce vacant.
According to relevant sources, the workshop has only 854 employees against 3,220 approved posts, leaving 2,366 vacancies.
During Eid-ul-Fitr in 2026, the workshop repaired 106 coaches. For Eid-ul-Azha, it set a target of 127, 21 more than the previous Eid, to meet increased passenger demand. By May 20, all 127 coaches had been repaired, and 103 had been handed over to different railway departments.
Coach repairs involve structural work, bogie overhauling, seat fitting, electrical work and painting, requiring coordination among workers, technicians and engineers from different shops.
Works Manager Md Mamatazul Islam contributed to maintaining the pace of repairs and meeting the deadline through effective use of available manpower. The achievement also reflects the collective efforts of the workshop's workers, technicians, engineers and other officials.
Mamatazul has recently been transferred to Railway Bhaban in Dhaka as part of a routine transfer.
Describing his approach to work, he said, “Wherever I work, I try to give my very best. This mindset motivates me to fulfil my responsibilities. I believe sincere efforts can produce good results even amid limitations.”
The repaired coaches help increase the railway's passenger-carrying capacity during peak travel periods, particularly Eid. #EK
