We are congratulating Mohammad Sahabuddin, the new President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. One of the organisers of the Liberation War, veteran Freedom Fighter and Politician Mohammad Sahabuddin was sworn in as the 22nd President of Bangladesh on Monday morning. After the swearing-in ceremony, the new President and outgoing President M Abdul Hamid officially alter their respective seats as part of changing charge of the office.

Earlier, the 73-year-old politician was elected as the 22nd President of Bangladesh on February 13, 2023. Sahabuddin actively participated in Six-Point Movement in 1966, Bhutta (Maize) Movement in 1967, mass-uprising in 1969, election of 1970 and Liberation War in 1971.

He was in the frontline organiser of Pabna district movement and raised protest soon after the brutal incidents on August 15, 1975.  Subsequently he was imprisoned for three years and subjected to inhuman torture by the then military dictators.

He also held important positions in the public service and other sectors as well. As the ACC Commissioner, he proved his deep firmness in dealing with the ‘so-called corruption’ plot against the Padma Bridge project.

We would like to convey our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to our country’s new President. We also wish him good health and success in his future endeavor.

Country’s people believe the ruling party has

chosen a

well-educated, honest, efficient

and skilled person for the post

 of the country’s President

Country’s people believe the ruling party has chosen a well-educated, honest, efficient and skilled person for the post of the country’s President. They also think the new President will work in accordance with the country’s Constitution.

So, the President will do what the Constitution has entrusted him with, while he would not be able to do anything beyond the Constitution. He (Mohammad Shahabuddin) will have to build himself as true patriot in his future journey being imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War and the belief of non-communalism.

We all believe the President, also the head of the state, will do everything for the sake of country’s independence, sovereignty democracy and constitutional stability in future exercising the power bestowed upon him according to Constitution. We also express hopes that the new head of the state will assist the government and the Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections.

The President’s prior experience in the judiciary will be helpful in managing the state. We think nation will benefit if the President fulfills his duty as the guardian of the people regardless of party affiliation. Therefore, we envisage that the new President will strive to protect people’s rights.
