Leaders and activists from Students Against Discrimination (SAD) student groups and Islami Andolon Bangladesh formed a human chain in front of the Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office on Sunday morning. They were demanding the removal of the newly appointed Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Harinakundu, Sudipta Kumar Singha. The student leaders also submitted a memorandum to the DC, addressed to the Chief Advisor, Professor Mohammad Yunus.
The organizers labeled the UNO as a close associate of the "fascist" government, accusing him of being involved in massive corruption and irregularities. The anti-discrimination student leaders stated that they do not want an officer with such an alleged background in their area.
The protest was attended by several figures, including Anti-Discrimination Student Movement's former convener Abu Huraira, Islami Andolon Bangladesh Jhenaidah district unit president Naim Mahmud, its former member-secretary Saidur Rahman, and Chhatra Shibir town unit general secretary Shahrier Ahmed.
The protesting students warned that if the UNO is not transferred and held accountable soon, they will launch a tougher movement.
