Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Prof Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Sheikh donated two tonnes of rice, one tonne of potatoes and half tonne of pulses to the relief fund of Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton on Monday.
The VC provided these food items in a personal effort to help fighting coronavirus. Mayor Liton thanked the VC for donating the food items amid this critical situation. At the same time, he called for the wealthy people to come forward like this.
Meanwhile, due to the spread of corona virus, RUET was closed down. As a result the low income temporary workers of the uuniversity including dining boy, gardener and Sweeper have become unemployed. They are in danger of not getting a permanent salary.
The VC come forward to help them in this crisis at his own initiative. He distributed relief supplies among hundreds of such familie. Among the relief items there were rice, pulses, potatoes, salt, oil, onion and soap. The essential goods were kept in packets maintaining safe distance in front of the administrative building on Monday afternoon.
RUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam said, "These temporary employees working in different posts including residential halls, are part of the RUET family.
As they are not permanent employees there is no way to help them officially while the campus is closed. So, I am helping them personally according my ability”.
He also said, Government is providing assistance to poor, helpless people. City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has been working relentlessly in Rajshahi.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the wealthy people to come forward with the help for poor people in this moment of crisis. He rewuested all to stay inside the house.
