There are three rubber plantations in Raujan under Bangladesh Forestry Development Corporation. Among the three rubber plantations Haldia rubber plantation, Raojan rubber plantation, Dabua rubber plantation. Since the establishment of three rubber plantations, initially the rubber plantations became a profitable enterprise by producing rubber, but later the rubber plantations were badly damaged in the cyclones of 1991 and 1997. Bangladesh Forestry Development Corporation revitalizes damaged rubber plantations by replanting trees. Haldia Rubber Plantation with 2800 acres of land in Easin Nagar, Brikshabanupuri, Brindavanpur, Haldia, Shirni Battal, Galachipa, Oyhedya Kheel, Gorjania area of Haldia Union of Raojan Upazila.
Sujit Bhowmik Roy, Manager of Haldia Rubber Plantation, said 10,000 kg of rubber is being harvested every day after the onset of winter season from 1 lakh 36 thousand productive rubber trees on 2800 acres of hill and dune land.
He said that if the winter is long, it will be possible to extract 10 thousand kg of rubber husk every day. Hingla, Suranga, Melua, Sinharia, Radhamadhavpur, Raojan Pourashova, Brikshbanupur, Jangal Raojan Haldia Union, Dabua Rubber Plantation with an area of 2400 acres in Banaras area. Dabua rubber plantation manager Ashraful Alam said that there are 3 lakh 59 thousand 853 rubber trees in Dabua rubber plantation. Out of which 6000 kg of rubber is extracted daily at the beginning of winter season from 1 lakh 3 thousand 847 productive trees.
East Raojan Pourashova, West Raojan, Dhalarmukh, Kazi Para, Chikon Rham, Kadalpur, Betbunia Union of Kaukhali Upazila, Dailong Para, Chikanchara, Manai Para, Tal Tala, Delight, Nakata, Dochala Rubber Plantation has been developed on 1800 acres of hilly land in the area.
The Raojan rubber plantation has 1 lakh 93 thousand rubber trees. There are 76 thousand 90 productive rubber trees. 5 thousand kg of rubber is being extracted from the productive rubber trees every day at the beginning of the winter season.
Raojan Rubber Plantation Manager Ruhul Amin said that in the financial year 2022-23, the rubber production target of Raojan Rubber Plantation is 3 lakh 45 thousand kg. Raojan Rubber Plantation has managed to produce 88 thousand 813 kg of rubber in the current financial year. 22 thousand kg of rubber harvested daily from three rubber plantations in Raojan are processed to produce 4 thousand kg of dry rubber per day. The current market price of rubber is Tk 190 per kg.
The market price of 4 thousand kg of rubber produced from three rubber plantations in Raojan is Tk 8 lakh. The production of the three rubber plantations will be more during the winter season, said officials of the rubber plantations.
